Trekkers in Training

One of our very first training exercises was a snowshoeing adventure to Ribbon Creek on April 6th.
It was a beautiful day and our down jackets were extremely hot.  It was actually easier to walk than use the snow shoes.  They kept gathering chunks of snow on the base of our feet.

Most of our training to date has taken place at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park in Cochrane.  During our 19 km hike, I needed to support my ankle (which I sprained last month) so these rocks looked like a good place to make the necessary adjustments.  Meanwhile, Jana was mapping out our route.

Who said we can't use technology on the mountains?  Where there's a will, there's a way!  At least in Kananaskis country.

Since we have to practice carrying 20 pounds in our backpack, I was glad I packed our camera today.  From a distance I noticed a slight movement is the bushes and asked Jana to get my camera.  I told her I thought it was a porcupine and sure enough, he was having a leisurely stroll and I was able to take a few pictures without agitating him.

The wildlife and scenery certainly makes the journey more enjoyable.
